How the required score is calculated
The calculator keeps the completed course contribution, subtracts it from the target, and assigns the remaining amount to the final exam.
required final = [target − current × (1 − final weight)] ÷ final weight
Enter weights as percentages. A final worth 25% leaves 75% for the current grade. If the required result exceeds 100%, the stated target is not possible without extra credit or a different grading rule.
If the final counts inside a test category instead of having its own course weight, use the exact category rule from the syllabus. A category average needs the other test scores and cannot be represented by one standalone final weight.
Final grade questions
What if the calculator says I need more than 100%?
The target is not reachable under the entered values without extra credit. Check the current grade, target, and final weight against the syllabus before making a decision.
What if the final is worth zero percent?
A zero-weight final cannot change the course grade, so the required-score formula is undefined. Enter the percentage of the total course grade assigned to the final.
Does this account for a dropped test?
No. A dropped or replaced test changes the category average. Recalculate that category first, then use its updated contribution in the main grade calculator.
