The letter method uses a common US 4.0 scale. For different values, choose grade-point entry and copy your school's points per credit. This is not a percentage-to-GPA converter or a UC admissions GPA calculator.
Choose Exclude only for courses your school leaves out of GPA. A failed pass/fail course may still count as F. A repeated course does not automatically replace an old attempt. Check the repeat guidance below before adding your previous record.
Optional weighting adds Honors +0.5 or AP/IB +1, capped at 5. F gets no bonus. Other caps and school rounding rules are not applied.
Points per credit: use your school's published value for the course grade, including any permitted bonus. Switching to this mode copies known letter values; blank grades stay blank.
How to handle a repeated course
Include only the attempts your school counts. Excluding a row does not remove an old attempt from the previous record above. Get an adjusted previous GPA and credit total from your registrar, or enter all counted courses and leave both previous-record fields blank. Do not guess a replacement rule.
Credits make the difference
A four-credit course changes GPA more than a one-credit course. A plain average of the letter grades can give the wrong result.
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
The default scale assigns A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and continues to F = 0. Some institutions use different values, exclude pass/fail courses, replace repeated grades, or do not award A+ above 4.0.
Optional course-level weighting adds 0.5 for Honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, capped at 5.0. F receives no bonus. For other school scales, choose grade-point entry and enter the final points per credit yourself. No additional bonus or cap applies in that mode.
Exclude courses only under your school's rules. An excluded row removes its credits and points from this calculation, not from the previous record. This tool does not apply UC admissions subject rules or honors caps.
